Opinion

I have a track record of success in positioning Scripps Institution of Oceanography as a global thought leader. I have ghostwritten and placed dozens of op-ed pieces in newspapers and magazines throughout the United States, Europe, and Asia.

"Our future depends on the health of the ocean"

The Hill, June 8, 2021

My success in placing opinion pieces in various media has been enhanced by cultivating relationships with opinion page editors. This piece, which I ghostwrote for Scripps Director Margaret Leinen, was one of three by Scripps authors that has appeared in The Hill in summer 2021. The Hill counts more than 4 million Twitter followers.

"Der Preis Der Meere"

Mare, August/September 2011

At Scripps Oceanography, we frequently time op-ed placements to occasions when our scientists and administrators are taking part in significant events. I wrote and pitched this op-ed in the German magazine "Mare" and had it translated in time for it to be available to audience members when then-Scripps Director Tony Haymet spoke at an E.U.-U.S. Conference on Sustainable Oceans in June 2011.

"Help from within and without"

Straits Times (Singapore),  May 9, 2009

Here is another example of an op-ed pitched and placed in targeted media.  In this instance, the Straits Times ran the op-ed I ghostwrote and pitched as Scripps Director Tony Haymet served as a moderator and panelist at the World Ocean Conference in Manado, Indonesia in May 2009.
